Dr Samuel Milham is the author of an alarming study (published in Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine) on the link between obesity and exposure to dirty electricity (a form of electromagnetic field pollution). He furthermore linked dirty electricity to diabetes through analysing worldwide health metric data.
In his book Dirty Electricity: Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization, Dr Milham reveals that as electricity spread throughout the United States in the 20th century, so did other diseases of civilization including cancer, asthma and diabetes.
‘Asparagus transforms my chamber-pot into a flask of perfume.’ ~ French novelist Marcel Proust in 1913.
Up to 50% of us who eat asparagus produce distinctly whiffy urine and certainly would not agree with Proust on the matter! The pong is explained by the fact that the vegetable's sulphurous amino acids break down into smelly chemical components during the digestive process. Asparagus is rich in folate and also prevents and treats urinary tract infections.
As published in the International Journal of Obesity: Overweight people who ate two eggs for breakfast daily for two months, as part of a calorie-reduced diet, lost 65% more weight than those who ate a bagel of equal calories. (Cholesterol and triglyceride levels did not change for the egg eaters.) Study author Nikhil Dhurandhar, associate professor at the Louisiana State University System, says high-quality protein foods, such as eggs, make you feel full longer.
TUNA SALAD AND NECTARINE SALSA
This is summer food at its best, to be enjoyed outside with friends and a bottle of chilled white wine. The simplicity of the plain grilled tuna pairs perfectly with the colourful nectarine salsa, making a meal that is both healthy and delicious. Tuna packs a mean punch when it comes to supplying our bodies with protein and omega-3 fatty oils, as well as other essential minerals like phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.
Professor Oliver Sacks (1933-2015)
Neurologist and author
‘Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.’ Oliver Sacks
